Together We Lift Girls Out of Poverty

Holy Spirit sisters in Haflong are tackling unmet healthcare needs by training poor tribal girls in Assam to become nurses, transforming their lives in the process.

These sisters, who are certified nurses, currently run a two-year nursing program with a capacity of 40 students. Students receive clinical training in Holy Spirit’s general-purpose hospital in Haflong and in the nearby government-run Civic Hospital.

Once our four-year Holy Spirit Nursing College and Hostel project is completed, classes will expand to 60 per class with a total capacity of 240 students. Upon graduation, students will earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) positioning them for a secure job in medical centers in major cities in India. Some may choose to further their specialized training or stay in Assam to care for those in underserved rural areas. Many promising opportunities await out girls in Assam.

“We know that our donations make a real and lasting difference to our girls in India. We see it in their faces and in their accomplishments. We really do feel like they are our girls…and we feel proud and humbled by their enthusiastic appreciation.”
