Our Story

Who are we?Prathyasha Bhavan (Home of Hope) was started in 1987 by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, an international Catholic Christian order of 14,000 nuns, dedicated to work with the disadvantaged young.

We have a residence for the girls as well as a school on the premises. Children also go to five different schools in the area, depending on their needs and their ability to cope up with English medium. In addition, we have work skills classes that prepare the girls for their future life. Some of the girls are sent to other states to gain better experience of life skills and ability to handle English so they can gain good jobs. Presently four of our girls are in Junior College in Andra Pradesh, four are doing their Plus 2 (Junior College) in Bangalore, and two have started working to have job experience.

Our style of education is the Preventive System given to us by St. John Bosco. This system of education incorporates three aspects in our daily interactions: reason, religion and loving kindness. St. John Bosco believed that educators should reason with the young people rather than dictate policy and expected behavior. He reminded young people about a God who loves them and wants their good. And finally, every meeting with every young person is to be full of loving-kindness.
