Our History

dsc_01931410In the cities of Kerala and neighbouring states, we were constantly aware that there are girl children who are unwanted due to illegitimate birth or who have been deserted by their parents. There are also girls who run away from homes due to ill treatment or poverty. They are often found by the police at bus stands and railway stations. These girls did not have the opportunities that would help in their intellectual, emotional and psychological development. In fact, they were living in a disorganized manner giving into all kinds of vices and bad habits.

On 2nd June 1987, in the presence of dignitaries of Kochi Corporation, our work was begun. Ten girls, ages 5 to 15 years of age, were brought to Prathyasha Bhavan (Home of Hope), a unit of the Auxilium Centre of the Salesian Sisters of Palluruthy. Those with the aptitude to study were admitted in the neighbouring schools and those who were not able to proceed with an academic career were given the possibility to learn trades like dressmaking, embroidery and typewriting.
